Weeknotes - Week of April 6th, 2020

This idea was inspired by this tweet. I immediately liked it and figured I should write my own weeknotes from now on. So here goes…

  1. Started studying Graph Theory in the earnest. These days I’m all about Shortest Path problem and Dijkstra. MIT’s Introduction to Algorithms lectures combined with Skiena’s book are great resources. Also spent some time exploring recursive backtracking techniques.

  2. Re-read my study notes for the GFS (Google File System) and MapReduce papers. This helped me crystalize a lot of my understanding of these systems. Planning on reading the Raft paper next week.

  3. Spent some time on Netflix. Tiger King, Stranger Things (Season 3), Jawani Jaaneman and a Google DeepMind documentary on Youtube about AlphaGo. For an AI documentary, there’s a remarkable human element present in the film, which I enjoyed.

  4. Made Sphagetti for the first time, which was excellent. I daresay I’m getting good at making red sauce. Also made Guacamole and tried with Sandwiches. Thanks to girlfriend’s help via video call <3

  5. Discovered a beautiful Piano playlist on Spotify, and have been playing it in the apartment all day. Extremely peaceful.

  6. I’ve also been doing leetcode’s April coding challenge side by side, starting 1st April. Some problems are fairly easy, while others took me longer than they should have.

  7. Doing Yoga and Running on alternate days. I’m still a yoga beginner and the girlfriend is basically my tutor. Running is getting more and more consistent, with current focus on breathing technique and not getting too tired too soon. I’m hovering around 4-5kms in 30 mins right now. Hoping to improve upon it soon.

That’s it for now. I hope to keep up the weeknotes, as it’s quite a good way to keep myself accountable.
